Artist Statement

Cosmo’s Moon 2.5 is our small-scaled reproduction of our original quilt Cosmo’s Moon. Andy’s and my unique idea for our Cosmo’s Moon was triggered by Dean Martin singing the song “That’s Amoré” at the beginning and the end of the 1987 movie “Moonstruck.” And the scene referenced was of the characters Raymond and Rita Cappomagi looking out their bedroom window at Cosmo’s Moon.

Jim immediately sketched a drawing on his iPad so as not to forget the idea. Our construction technique was to strip-piece two batik graduated fabrics to our semblance of our idea of Cosmo’s Moon.

Techniques

Design drawing, strip-piecing, free-motion and walking-foot quilting, domestic Janome sewing machine.
